A rain gauge from a plastic bottle
Measuring how much it rains with a cut bottle, a ruler and a spreadsheet. One month of data.
I cut the top off a bottle, turned it upside down as a funnel and taped a ruler to the side.
Every evening I wrote down the number. At the end of the month I made a chart.
Biggest day: 18 mm. Days with no rain: 19.
What I learned
A straight-sided bottle matters. The curvy bottom made my first week of numbers wrong.
